The debate about the existence of the soul and whether it is immortal, or dies with the person, is an endless story that for centuries has occupied the time of every rational thinker.

The Soul Dies, Returns to the Universe: Two Scientists Prove It (Video)

The American physician, Dr. Stuart Hamerroff and the British physicist Sir Roger Penrose have developed a quantum theory of consciousness, which states that our souls are contained within structures called microtubules within our brain cells.

The idea was developed because of the concept that the brain is a biological computer, with 100 billion neurons, whose synaptic connections act as information networks. Dr. Hameroff, a professor emeritus in the Department of Anesthesiology and Psychology and Director of the Center for Consciousness Studies at the University of Arizona, and Sir Roger have been working on the theory since 1996.

They argue that our consciousness experiences are the result of the effects of quantum gravity on microtubules, a process they call objective orchestrated reduction (Orch-OR).

In a near-death experience, microtubules lose their quantum state, but the information inside them is not destroyed. Or in understandable terms, the soul does not die but returns to the universe.

Dr. Hameroff explained the theory extensively in a documentary narrated by Morgan Freeman, called "Through the Wormhole," which was recently issued by the Science Channel in the United States.

"Let's say the heart stops beating, the blood stops flowing, the microtubules lose their quantum state. The quantum information in the microtubules is not destroyed, it can not be destroyed, it is simply distributed and dissipated by the universe, "said Dr. Hameroff.

"If the patient is resuscitated, this quantum information can be returned to the microtubules and the patient says 'I had a near-death experience,'" Dr. continued. Hameroff If the patient dies, "it would be possible for this quantum information to exist outside the body indefinitely, as a soul"

Dr. Hameroff believes that new ideas about the role of quantum physics in biological processes such as bird navigation help confirm the theory.
